About adult classes

Adults at Sozokan can train across more styles than anywhere else in Australia. Mix and match, or focus on one. Below are our major styles and when they run.

Major styles and times

Sozokan Ryu Kempojujitsu

When: fundamentals Fridays at 6.30pm; beginners–intermediate Tuesdays at 6.30pm, Saturdays at 3.30pm and Sunday at 10.30am; blue belt and above Thursday at 8.30pm (ages 13+). A modified class for ages 7 to 12 runs on the Kids & Teens page.

Aikido

When: beginners Sundays at 9.00am (ages 7+) and Tuesday at 7.30pm (ages 13+); advanced Saturdays at 3.30pm (ages 13+).

Dragon Arnis

When: beginners & intermediate Mondays & Fridays at 5.30pm; advanced Wednesdays at 6.30pm (ages 13+; ages 13 to 16 subject to approval for weapons classes).

Kickboxing

When: beginners/intermediate Monday at 5.30pm (16+) & Friday at 6.00pm (13+); all levels Wednesdays at 6.00pm & Sundays at 10.30am (13+). A modified class for ages 7 to 12 runs on the Kids & Teens page.

Muay Thai

Thai boxing, the national sport of Thailand, with origins in the battlefield tactics of the Siamese army. Punches, kicks, elbows, knees, standing grappling. Develops power, speed and serious cardio.

When: beginner/intermediate Mondays at 5.30pm (16+); Fridays at 12.00pm and 6.00pm (13+).

Brazilian Jujitsu (BJJ)

When: Mondays at 7.30pm (13+); Wednesdays at 7.30pm (16+) and Saturdays at 12.30pm (16+). Dedicated younger classes on the Kids & Teens page.

Boxing

When: ages 16+ Mondays & Wednesdays at 7.30pm and Tuesdays at 6.30pm; fundamentals ages 13+ Tuesday & Thursday at 5.30pm. Younger classes on the Kids & Teens page.

Sakurakan Judo

When: Saturdays at 11.30am & Wednesday at 8.30pm (ages 13+). Younger classes on the Kids & Teens page.

Sozokan Ryu Bujutsu (Kobudo)

The study of traditional Japanese weaponry, including Ken (sword), Jo (staff), Hanbo (short staff), Tanto (knife) and Yawara. Other weapons such as bo, tonfa, manrikigusari, sai, nunchaku and hojojutsu taught subject to demand.

When: Tuesday at 5.30pm and Saturday at 2.30pm.

Arjuken Karate

A full-contact karate style similar to kyokushin, originating in the Philippines, incorporating arnis stick fighting, judo throwing and weapons. Tough conditioning and hard training. Academy students have a strong record of national and international wins.

When: Thursdays at 6.00pm.

Greco-Roman Wrestling / Sambo

An Olympic sport in its own right and a strong complement to other grappling systems or MMA.

When: available via private training only.
