Ages 3 to 16

Kids & Teens classes

Unique dedicated classes from age 3 and up.

About our kids and teens programs

Unlike many gyms that combine adults' and children's classes, Sozokan Academy runs dedicated programs for four different age groups, so each child gets the best possible opportunity to learn. We emphasise quality martial arts education even at the youngest levels, so you can be sure your kids are developing real skills, not just belts.

Ages 3 to 6

Tiger Cubs

Tiger Cubs is a special program for children aged 3 to 6 years. These are short classes that mix martial arts with games, fitness, stranger danger, personal safety, body coordination and balance drills. They run for about 30 minutes but can go a little longer depending on the group's attention span on the day.

One of the most important aids to learning is routine, so wherever possible we encourage parents to bring their child to at least two sessions a week.

When: Monday & Wednesday at 4.00pm, and Saturdays at 9.00am.

Warriors

The Warriors program targets the primary-school age group with a selection of martial systems built around fun, self-discipline, sport and self-defence. Students are encouraged to study as many of the styles below as possible. This flexibility and range of styles is unique in Australia.

JuJitsu (Kempo self-defence, modified for younger students)

Throwing, locking, grappling, striking, anti-bullying and multiple-attacker drills, plus fitness and personal safety. Students follow an adult syllabus at a slower pace, so they learn practical self-defence and self-discipline, not just patterns in the air.

When: Monday & Wednesday at 4.30pm, and Saturdays at 10.30am.

Brazilian JuJitsu / Grappling

A sophisticated ground system, plenty of fun while teaching solid self-defence on the ground. Competition is available locally through to international level.

When: Wednesdays at 5.30pm (with Gi) and Thursdays at 5.30pm (no Gi).

Boxing

Excellent for cardio fitness, coordination and confidence, suitable for boys and girls.

When: Mondays at 5.30pm and Fridays at 4.30pm.

Muay Thai / Kickboxing

The national sport of Thailand: kicks, punches, elbows and knees. Protective equipment must be worn for this age group.

When: Thursdays at 4.30pm and Saturdays at 11.30am.

Judo

An Olympic sport focused on throwing and some grappling; a great confidence builder.

When: Saturdays at 9.30am (ages 7 to 16).

Aikido

A defensive system of locking and redirection; suits longer-term, patient learners.

When: Sundays at 9.00am (ages 7+).

Ages 13 to 16

Martial Teens

Developed specifically for young adults, Martial Teens covers both martial sports and self-defence styles. As with regular schooling, we do not believe a rounded education comes from just one system, so students are encouraged to mix styles, though some choose to focus on one. This flexibility and choice is not available anywhere else in Australia.

Boxing Fundamentals

Must be attended to be eligible for further boxing training in the 13 to 16 group.

When: Tuesday & Thursday at 5.30pm (ages 13+).

Kickboxing / Muay Thai
